About this Motif
Dabke is an Arabic folk dance originating from the mountains of Levantine regions such as Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria. "Dabke" derives from the Levantine Arabic word dabaka which translates to "stamping of the feet" or "to make noise."
Dabke dancing varies by region, and combines circle and line dance formations occupied by songs sung specifically for the performance. The dabke represents the perseverance of Palestinian heritage. Palestinian dabke expresses oneself through culture, and the ability to connect with the community while sharing tradition.
